| What is a
"Russian nose"?
"Russian" is actually not a very suitable word, since
this type of nose can appear among people who aren't ethnically
Russian, such as Ukrainians. In Russian, a language that has
adapted better to the general problematics of ethnical identity,
it would be called российский
нос [rossiyskiy nos] -
"nose belonging to Russia as a nation", and not русский
нос [russkiy nos] - "ethnically
Russian nose". Therefore, we use quotation marks around it.
The basic structure of a "Russian nose" is, to
simplify, that just below the root of the nose, there is a kind of
lump. This lump is, however, not quite big enough to give
the nose a convex shape.
The "Russian nose" is often combined with eyebrows
that slightly grow into each other above the nose. |

Celebrities with "Russian noses":

Vyacheslav Kuznetsov
Plays the guitars in the rock band "Partizanskoe
Radio", and has a great smile ... (Also, he seems
to enjoy displaying some sort of irony towards the concept
of "baby tees".) |

Sergei Bodrov jr.
Russian actor, who has starred in wonderful films, such as Prisoner
of the Mountains, Stringer, the both Брат
(Brother) films, and Война
(War). Not long ago, he decided to end his career as an
actor, and managed to complete one film (Sestry), before
one day in |
| September 2002, when he, his
film crew, and the entire Caucasian village in which they were working were
buried under an avalanche. The Russian film industry certainly
lost at least one great talent in the accident, and with
him a fine nose. |

Post-Moscow: a sturdy "Russian nose". |
Eva
One of my favourite characters (the only main one besides Willie
and Aeron whom I've never temporarily tired of drawing). She
already had a bit of a "Russian nose" before I lived
in Moscow and became aware of the phaenomenon, but now it has,
naturally, become more distinct.
Prae-Moscow:
development in the right direction. |
